Typical case of gout with central and marginal erosions
Gout is a metabolic disease that leads to the destruction of bones and joints through the deposition of urate crystals in the form of tophi. The disease often manifests itself in the feet, especially big toe, but also in the hands and other joints.
Typical are erosions, tophi in the soft tissues and in the bones, as well as reactions of the periosteum. The erosions occur at the edge of the joints (green overlay), as in other arthritides, or centrally in the joint (yellow overlay), as in this case. Periosteal changes (red overlay) may be subtle and occur at the margin of the erosions.
In this case, no soft tissue tophi or calcifications are visible.
Gout, a metabolic disease, can lead to arthritis and erosions of the joints. At the joint margin (marginal) or directly in the joint surface (central). Periosteal calcifications also occur.
